How’s everyone holding up during this crazy quarantine? Has anyone turned absolutely stir crazy yet? Life sure has taken a different spin lately and with all this change, it’s easy to lax the schedule and fall off a routine. And of course with being housebound, the urge to chill on the sofa, binge watch Netflix and live off of snack foods, physical exercise becomes less of a priority and more of a chore. However, with this whole lock down phase, many of us (if not everyone) will experience a significant increase in stress. Not only does stress instigate unhealthy behavior, stress can also increase weight gain. Plus, with the economy being shut down, many of us are working from home and spending all day sitting down can exacerbate weight gain. Also, alcohol consumption has increased during this pandemic, because the majority of families are not used to being around each other literally 24/7 and need a way to relax at the end of each day.
Although the gyms are closed for now, this doesn’t mean you have to stop all your New Year getting fitter and healthier goals. Remember, sometimes a basic home workout is all you need to kick start your motivation. Enough with the excuses, and time to throw in some motivation.
Goodbye Excuses
We all make excuses. Procrastination and excuses are part of everyone one way or the other. Either we tell ourselves that we’re too tired, too busy, or too embarrassed, and eventually these excuses become a reality if we don’t put an end to these limitations. Instead of focusing on excuses, focus on opportunities.
This pandemic has changed every single aspect of life. Even though it has caused inconveniences to many people, commute to and from work is no longer bumper to bumper or perhaps you’re working from home. There is now ample amount of time not being eaten up by traffic and you can invest in working out. However, the temptation of fast and processed food is not readily available since most restaurants are shut down. Now is the time to fall in love with healthy eating and wholefoods again. We don’t need gyms. There are plenty of ways to get a full body workout from home, without any equipment.
Invest in New Equipment
While you can work out using nothing other than your own body weight and some comfy clothes, many people find that they’re more easily motivated when they properly equip themselves. The right workout wear from online outlets like CNCB can help you feel motivated and pumped to start working out.
Investing in a new set of dumbbells, a yoga mat, or some new workout clothes, can help make fitness more than just a fling but more of a commitment and long term investment.
Start Small
Don’t make the mistake of over-exerting yourself on your first workout. Start small. Start out with something that you know you can achieve. By all means challenge yourself, but you want to move the next day. Don’t overexert yourself to the point of not being able to move after your first few workouts. It’s about being consistent, finding a rhythm, and understanding your body. Also, working out is not a punishment, it’s a celebration of what your body can do.
As you grow in proficiency, you’ll naturally start to push yourself harder and harder.
The first step on any journey is always the hardest. Just remember that you will always have this blog’s full support!
